Francesco Nevola: Biography

Francesco Nevola is a freelance writer and researcher and Curator based in Cortona, Italy.  Recent publications include Piranesi: Grotteschi: an extensive interpretation of Venetian artist: Piranesi’s prints of 1740’s (Spring 2009).  This book proposes a text-based elucidation of these ‘perplexing works of fantasy’ reassessing them as both pivotal works in the artist’s career and as a significant contribution, in the form of contemporary allegory, to the socio-political events that shaped his age.

Current projects involve the opening of a new commercial gallery space: Teverina Fine Art in Cortona, Italy serving as a platform for emerging Italian and international contemporary artists within the Tuscan province.

Francesco has worked for the National Inventory Research Project and for
Dulwich Picture Gallery as Assistant Curator. Curatorial projects include: Celebrating the Sea (December 2005 – June 2006) at the Russell-Cotes Museum and Art Gallery, Bournemouth and Soane’s Favourite Subject: The Story of Dulwich Picture Gallery (May–July 2000); he has also published the monograph Il Palazzo della Consulta e l’architettura romana di Ferdinando Fuga (Rome, 2004). He studied at University College London and at the Courtauld Institute.
